We flew to Reno, Nv. during the first week of May, 2007 to visit Seth who is working for a civil engineering firm planning and designing developments in the Reno area. During the week we toured Lake Tahoe, Virginia City, Carson City, and Stillwater Wildlife Refuge. We stayed at the Peppermill Hotel and Casino out of the downtown area.
During our stay we only went into the downtown area once to see the lights and casinos (without gambling though).
This was a rainy evening with few people walking around although there was music and an antique race car show on the main street (one of which had an umbrella over the cockpit). Directly above is a photo of Reno from an overlook on the road leading over the mountains towards Virginia City.
We stopped by Sand Mountain, a huge sand dune about 800 feet high and the Stillwater Wildlife Refuge.
The Brass Rail has balcony dining but would you eat on their balcony?
The entrance to the Virginia City cemetary looks inviting.
This person must have been a gambler - someone left some coins and a casino voucher on his grave.
Virginia City from the cemetary.
The dollar hotel and the church.
Do you suppose there is a reason the church is located behind the gunfight corral.
Did you know that Mark Twain spent some time in Virginia City?
They do have working local and long distance telephone service.
The scenic highlight of our trip was Lake Tahoe. The day we spent at Lake Tahoe was windy and chilly but otherwise a nice day.
